Water Fasting for Health

About Mark D. Colafranceschi, D.C.

Thirty years of clinical experience focused on helping people change the conditions affecting their health.

My work has evolved from traditional chiropractic and physical care into a broader approach that includes nutrition, supervised water fasting, lifestyle change and emotional work.

The central question has remained the same: what is interfering with the body's ability to function, adapt and recover, and what can realistically be changed?

My Approach
Clinical background

Experience matters most when it improves judgment.

Over nearly three decades of practice, I have worked with people dealing with a wide range of chronic health, nutritional, structural and lifestyle concerns. For more than 20 years, supervised water fasting has been a significant part of that work.

29+ Years

Clinical practice integrating chiropractic care, nutrition, lifestyle medicine and individualized health strategies.

20+ Years

Experience supervising water-only fasting, including preparation, monitoring and refeeding.

Individualized Care

No rigid protocol. The person's history, physiology, goals and response determine the priorities.

My philosophy

I am less interested in labels than in causes, patterns and priorities.

A diagnosis can be useful, but it does not always tell us why the person became ill, why the problem persists, or which changes are most likely to matter.

I look at health through three broad areas: chemical, structural and emotional. These areas constantly influence one another.

  • What is the person eating and exposed to?
  • How is the body moving and functioning mechanically?
  • How much chronic stress is present?
  • What behaviors continually recreate the same problem?
  • Which one to three changes are most likely to make the greatest difference?

The goal is not more treatment.

The goal is better health with the least unnecessary intervention.

If the body can recover when the right obstacles are removed, the job is to identify those obstacles before adding more complexity.
Three areas of health

Chemical. Structural. Emotional.

These three areas form the foundation of my clinical approach.

Chemical

Nutrition, hydration, fasting, food quality, nutrient status, alcohol, refined foods and environmental exposures all shape the body's internal chemistry.

Structural

Movement, strength, joint function, mechanical stress and physical treatment influence circulation, comfort, adaptation and recovery.

Emotional

Stress, buried feelings, unresolved conflict, relationships and repeated behavioral patterns can affect both physiology and health choices.

Water fasting

Water-only fasting became an important part of my clinical work because it can create a profound physiological change in a relatively short period of time.

But fasting is not a contest, and it is not appropriate for everyone. The value is in knowing when to use it, how to supervise it, and how to help the person change what happens after the fast.

Fasting experience

The fast is only one part of the process.

Preparation, monitoring and refeeding matter. Just as important is what the person learns during the fast and whether the habits that contributed to the problem actually change afterward.

I have also worked with Dr. Alan Goldhamer and the water-fasting model associated with TrueNorth Health Center for more than two decades.

Emotion-Link

Behavior often has an emotional reason.

Over time, my work increasingly focused on a question that nutrition and physical treatment alone could not answer:

Why does a person continue doing something they already know is hurting them?

Emotion-Link and The Ultimate Exercise developed from that question. The work examines buried feelings, stress, relationship patterns, dependency, control, avoidance, perfectionism and the emotional forces behind repeated behavior.

Change the attraction, not just the rule.

Telling someone what not to eat, who not to date or what behavior to stop is often insufficient.

When the underlying emotional pattern changes, the person's tastes, choices and attractions can change as well.

How I work

Find the highest-priority factors and keep the plan understandable.

Complex cases do not necessarily require complicated plans. Often the best starting point is identifying the few factors that deserve attention first.

Listen

Understand the person's history, goals, concerns, symptoms and what they have already tried.

Prioritize

Determine which chemical, structural or emotional factors are most likely to matter.

Reassess

Make meaningful changes, observe the response, and adjust rather than endlessly adding treatments.

Practice locations

Clinical services and consultations are provided through my practice, with work centered in Scottsdale, Arizona and Idaho.

Professional focus

A practical approach to helping people participate in their own health.

My role is not to create dependence on treatment. It is to help people better understand their health, identify what is changeable, and make decisions that improve the environment in which their body has to function.

Start with an individualized review.

If you are considering water fasting, nutrition changes, physical treatment or Emotion-Link work, the first step is determining what deserves the greatest attention in your particular situation.
